Please note that by completing this form, you are confirming your child's participation in the programme and agreeing to pay the non-refundable annual fee (outlined in Section 5 of this form).
The DofE International Award is the largest international youth programme in the world, with over 1.3 million global participants. We’re proud to offer this fantastic and worthwhile extra-curricular programme to Runnymede pupils in Year 10, Year 11 and in the Sixth Form.
There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five sections at Gold level. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, and planning, training for and completing two expeditions. These expeditions will take place in the spring term and the summer term.
Through the DofE International Award, young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs as well as university and job applications. Top employers in the UK and elsewhere recognise the work-ready skills DofE Award holders can bring to their business.
The DofE staff at Runnymede will facilitate all participants in working towards their goals and achieving their Awards. Fortnightly training sessions about map-reading & navigation, camping skills, first aid and cooking will help prepare participants for the two annual expeditions. And the Online Record Book provides a convenient way for participants to record their weekly volunteering, sporting and other commitments that count towards achieving their Award.
It is very important to remember that your child’s DofE Award programme will be designed by them - they must choose what to do for their volunteering, skills development and physical exercise every week. Likewise, they must show motivation and determination in completing their Award. At the very core of the Award’s philosophy is the belief that young people must be empowered and entrusted to achieve the Award for themselves. Therefore, only they (not school staff or parents) must take responsibility for it. Attendance at all meetings and in both expeditions is also essential.

Note: This fee does not include the total cost of the Gold Award Qualifying Expedition, which Year 12 participants will plan themselves. The price of this trip will depend on the participants’ choice of destination and associated travel costs etc, and will be finalised later in the school year.
